Member Programs

    Membership: There are 70 to 80 members annually, and Membership is from October through May with annual dues payable in October (for inclusion in the March 2011 Art Show and the November 2011 Art Sale). During summer, June through September, there is no additional fee as there are no planned or scheduled events, though members may use the Fine Arts Room for painting anytime they choose when the building is open. The dues cover expenses for the demonstrations held monthly and there are additional fees for art classes or workshops, for entry into the annual art show, and for field trip transportation. Each member is expected to volunteer services in a variety of association needs throughout the year of activities and events. See the Villager & Lifestyles magazines for monthly information.

    Annual Art Show: A weekend event which is participated in by members only, each with 4 or 5 works submitted. Publicized in the Arizona Republic and all local newspapers as well as the WBV Lifestyles. Art work is judged for awards and is for show and/or sale. There is an Artist’s Reception on Friday evening preceeding the Saturday/Sunday show. The event is attended by approximately 500 guests each year, and affordable art is sold. Paintings in watercolor, acrylic, oil, mixed media, sculpted works, fused glass, china painting, textiles or collages are the usual categories. There is an entry fee for each entry.

    Art Sale: A one-day event in which each artist is in charge of his/her own artworks for the day, including the sale of any items. Further information is coming. The event will be held on a November Saturday, 9 AM to 3 PM at the Fine Arts Bldg. at the Vista’s.

    Art Classes: TBA in first meeting of the year (2nd Tuesday of October). And in Lifestyles and Villager magazines.

    Meeting & Programs: The second Wednesdays of each month (Oct. - May) from 1:30 to 3:30 PM at the Fine Arts Bldg. at the Vista’s in the Fine Arts Room (in rear of the building). Reminder phone calls are made by the Phoning Committee. Refreshments are served, friends meet and talk with each other, and an artist’s demo or a hands-on experience is enjoyed. Meetings generally have 40 to 50 attending. A Calendar of Events will be distributed at the first meetings.

    Painting Groups & Equipment: In the Fine Arts Room there is always a group on Monday mornings (9 AM ), sharing the joy of painting. Sometimes also on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. There is a library of art magazines and art books that are invaluable. Equipment consists of floor and table easels, mat cutter, encaustic kit and iron, old newspapers, water containers, large ruler. Members bring their own paints, paper/canvas, brushes, paper towels, and any materials needed for the production of their work. It is helpful for members to have a case-on-wheels for hauling their own materials back and forth from home.
